Yesterday, March 22nd, Sprinkles locations throughout the country held a fundraiser to
benefit Japanese relief efforts after the devastating earthquake and tsunami. Sprinkles Cupcakes created the “Red Velvet Red Cross” cupcake from which 100% of the proceeds of each sale went directly to help the people of Japan.
I decided to stop by and pick up a cupcake to show my support and take it to Amos Gelb, the director of the Semester in Washington Journalism Program to get his thoughts on Sprinkles cupcakes. 🙂 As you can tell from the pictures, he loved it He also had a great suggestion, although the event at Sprinkles is over, there are still many ways you can support the people of Japan. His advice however, was to wait a few months and then directly contact a school or church in Japan and send your support there so that you know it is going directly to the people who need it most.
Hope everyone is enjoying the first few days of Spring! This weekend I’m hoping to attend the National Capital Area Cake Show for The Georgetowner, they have a Cupcake Challenge that evening that I am hoping to attend. 🙂 Anyone else planning on going? Let me know! Thanks!
